Wood-Mizer Manufactures New Blade Degree

(Indianapolis, IN) Wood-Mizer Products, Inc., the worldwide leader in portable band sawmills, announces the release of a new 4-degree hook angle in its DoubleHard product line.

Randy Panko, Wood-Mizer Blades Specialist, explains the reasons for development of this new hardwood blade profile. “As thin-kerf sawing continues to move into new areas of the world and for even more diverse applications, we found that for wood with extreme dryness and increased densities, there was a demand for a blade with even less hook angle.”

After months of research and rigorous testing, the 4-degree hook angle blade was born, using a high-quality steel alloy developed for rocket casings. Panko says, “There are different materials such as carbide and stellite that will handle the hardness, but we wanted to keep the cost affordable to the end user. If you hit metal or damage the blade, the repair cost per blade will still be manageable.” Panko says the new profile is also suitable for cutting certain species of frozen timber.

This profile is slightly different from Wood-Mizer’s 9-degree hook angle blade, using the .250 tooth height. This taller tooth provides increased gullet capacity for sawdust removal and higher feed rate.

The .045 blade will have a .021 set and the .055 contains a .023 set. It is available in the following variations:

.045 x 1" x 4°
.055 x 1" x 4°
.045 x 1" x 4°

The new blade will handle all horsepower ranges up to 25 HP electric and 40 HP diesel/gas.
